28th May 2021.
It may have been a wet day but this didn't stop the Selby Ladies Rugby Team from facing Hemsworth Ladies recently in their very first rugby match.
Ladies rugby is soaring in popularity and in 2020, Lawcris approached local town Selby to see if they could support the women's team with an exciting sponsorship deal. A few months later, they were on the front of all their rugby t-shirts proudly backing the new team.
Every week the ladies come together in Selby, lacing up boots, donning the familiar green socks, chucking in gum shields and running, rucking, tackling – all in the name of rugby.
One of our very own, Lauren Barker, is involved in the Selby ladies team and says, "We run around for 80 minutes, tackle people and get muddy, because it’s something we love doing. It’s getting out there and getting fit without having to go to the gym, which can be sooooo boring. This is fitness with a purpose. Rugby is also a massive stress reliever for me, it gives me a social and physical platform to clear my head, forget about any worries and reset. I would defintely encourage people to give it a go."
Lauren in action - "scrum and have a go if you think you're hard enough!"
Lawcris definitely backs the development and change in perceptions of women’s sport. Rugby’s “masculine” image is very much fading, and with it, its outdated opinions. This helps make way for a fresh future based on inclusivity: something Lawcris can proudly say they are helping to pioneer.
