OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a strong engineered wood material often used in construction and furniture manufacturing. Also known as flakeboard, sterling board and aspenite, it was invented in the USA in 1963.
OSB gets its load-bearing strength from its manufacturing process, where mats of wood chips are pressed together in alternate orientations and bonded with an adhesive resin.
Applications
We stock both OSB 2 and OSB 3, all of which is made from certified FSC timber.
OSB 2 is typically used as load-bearing boards in dry conditions. Common applications include: packaging, signboards, upholstered furniture, shopfitting, bars and restaurants, exhibitions and much more. Bare OSB is also currently popular among interior designers.
OSB 3 is resistant to humidity and often used in construction. Common uses include: roofing and sarking, hoardings, timber-frame buildings and flooring.
