We managed to get out of the office and explore a forest with our friends at EGGER.Some of our excitable staff ventured north to meet up with EGGER to look at their forest and some pretty impressive machinery.
We visited Spadeadam forest and found out some forestry facts:
- Each Tree makes 1.5 standard panels of chipboard.
- Every harvested tree is replaced to maintain an ongoing supply of wood.
- 1,000 hectares are harvested every year. (The same as 1,500 football pitches)
- EGGER sources over 400,000 tonnes of standing timber annually.
(Thats the same as 2,554 Jumbo Jets)
Each of these sites is managed to a high standard taking into consideration the environment, wildlife and the people there.
22 miles away from Spadeadam at EGGER's Hexham site they produce 45 miles of chipboard EVERY DAY!
